What’s with all this green?
Wow. Summer just moves too fast sometimes. We are in the heat of busy season at the creamery, but there’s a certain excitement in long, hard days spent on the farm and at the creamery. Of course with this heat, we have to be extremely mindful that our cows are staying hydrated. Those girls are busy producing high quality milk, and they deserve all the rest and fuel they need! (Did you know that our dairy cows will sleep and/or nap 12-14 hours day!?! I know, I am jealous too.)
Over at the creamery you might have noticed a certain shift in the products we are carrying. We took your feedback and interest in fresh, local produce and ran with it! That means when you stop in next you will see more veggies and fruits that have been grown right here in Iowa by other small farmers and growers like us who pour their heart into what they do. It also means that the store will never look the same when you stop in, we will always have a rotating variety of produce, based on what’s fresh that week. As farmers, we know the seasonality of harvest schedules and the challenges that weather provides. So we understand that we might only have a short window to offer something, but that just means it will be that much more meaningful and allows us to slow down and enjoy the season that we are in.
Right now, we are loving the greens! That is, lettuce, kale, and cabbage! But, very very soon we hope to welcome tomatoes, onions, and sweet corn to the shop as well. You can get more than milk delivered with us, you can get your produce delivered by our milkman.
We also are very thankful to be able to offer our larder boxes, a one time CSA box that allows you to get a taste of the season, without the large commitment of a weekly CSA. You get all the upsides: supporting local farmers, enjoying freshly harvest produce, stocking your kitchen with wholesome goods, without having a weekly commitment. Because we are moving with the growing seasons, we might not always know what will be included in that larder box in advance, but that is because we want to offer you the freshest, just harvested produce from the fields. But what we can guarantee is that you will receive quality, fresh, handpicked goods that will delight your family. Interested in larder boxes? See what’s available now!
In the business of this season, it can be hard to slow down, take it all in, and reflect on the hard work. But we just want to thank you for allowing us to be your local dairy farmer. We are so grateful to share a piece of our farm with your family, and be a part of your table.
